Ellsworth Community College is a 2 year community college located in the city of Iowa Falls, in the State of Iowa. The school was founded as Ellsworth College in 1890 by Eugene S. Ellsworth. The school was originally built to be a private business school, but later it became a 4 year college, as well as a music conservatory and a public junior college. It was then absorbed and has since served the Iowa Valley Community College District.
Ellsworth Community College, also known as ECC, offers three different degree programs. These programs include 2 year Art and Science degrees that are made for students who want to enter into the workforce without having to earn a degree from a 4 year institution. But some of the credits that are earned under this program can still be used for a 4 year university. There are also Career and Technical degrees and diplomas that include hands-on training on several vocational fields. Each of these courses can lasts anywhere from 9 months to 2 years. There are also Associate in Arts degrees that are for students that want to continue their degrees to earn a 4 year degree with affiliated colleges and Universities. The coursework for this program is similar to the programs offered during the freshman and sophomore years at the State Universities in Iowa. All students that have earned an associate degree will be guaranteed junior status in other schools.
Ellsworth Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association or the NJCAA. Among the sports offered for men include basketball, football, golf, wrestling, and baseball. The women's sports are basketball, volleyball, golf, and softball. The school colors are white and purple and the school nickname are the Panthers.
